In a significant boost for informal and micro businesses, 84 entrepreneurs from the Thaba Chweu Local Municipality received essential business equipment on Thursday 28 August 2026 at an event held in Lydenburg. The initiative, funded by the Small Enterprise Development Funding Agency (SEDFA), provided local businesses with items ranging from laptops and printers to stoves and cooking pots, tailored to their specific operational needs.
Among the beneficiaries was Nicholas Mkhonto, a local farmer specialising in piggery, sheep and goats. Expressing his gratitude, Mkhonto said, “I’m very excited that the department thought of us so that we can move forward with our businesses. From my side, next time when you come, you’ll see a big difference in my business.”
Mkhonto, who operates his farm around Lydenburg, received a laptop and printer. “This will assist me a lot with my admin. Currently, I write invoices by hand. Now I’ll write them properly and print them it will show that I’m professional. That’s a sign that shows the ambition to grow,” he added.
The handover forms part of SEDFA’s ongoing commitment to empowering local enterprises and driving economic development in the region. By equipping entrepreneurs with the tools they need, SEDFA aims to create more sustainable businesses, foster job creation and uplift the broader community.
